Why join
By joining CANSEA your organisation will link into Southeast Asia’s network of organisations working to confront the climate crisis. You’ll be able to share information about your campaigns and activities, receive support from other organisations, and support others in turn. By sharing information, working together, and exchanging skills and knowledge, we can strengthen our region’s broad, diverse climate movement.
Importantly, by joining CANSEA your organisation also becomes part of the world’s largest network working on climate change. You gain access to CAN’s international resources, working groups, and networks.

Membership Criteria
In order to be eligible for CANSEA membership the member must:
- Have climate change issues as its major concern;
- Be a registered organization, individuals are not eligible for membership;
- Be independent from government and business sectors;
- Be recommended by preferably at least 2 bonafide members in good standing;
Membership Application Process
All applicants are required to complete the CANSEA Membership Application Form, which can be found below and attach to it all required documentation. Applicants are then requested to send the application form to their National Coordinator, in the case of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand (where CANSEA currently has a National node) and to the Regional Coordinator in all other cases. The following process will then take place.
For applications to National Nodes (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand):
- Once the application form and supporting documents are submitted to the National Node Coordinator, the National Coordinator will ensure all requirements are met, seeking any clarifications from the applicant.
- The application will then be circulated to existing national members for comments for a period of 2 weeks.
- Once this period is over and no comments have arisen, the application will be forwarded to the CANSEA Coordinator.
- It will then be circulated to the other National Nodes Coordinators for comments. If there is no objection within 2 weeks, the Regional Coordinator will advise the National Node Coordinator of the application approval.
- The National Node Coordinator will then inform the applicant of the decision of the application. The applicant will then be considered a CAN, CANSEA and National Node member.
- The Regional Coordinator will then advise CANSEA and CAN of the new member and request the contact person be included on CANTalk.
For applications where there is currently no national node (all other countries in Southeast Asia):
- Once the application form and supporting documents are submitted to the CANSEA Coordintor, the CANSEA Coordinator will ensure all requirements are met, seeking any clarifications from the applicant.
- The application will then be circulated to all existing CANSEA members for comments for a period of one month.
- Once this period is over and no comments have arisen, the CANSEA Coordinator will then inform the applicant of the decision of the application. The applicant will then be considered a CAN and CANSEA member.
- The Regional Coordinator will then advise CANSEA and CAN of the new member and request the contact person be included on CANTalk.
Membership Fee
Please note there are no membership fees to join CANSEA.
Membership Application Form
The CANSEA Membership Application Form seeks to capture all the information required to ensure CANSEA members meet the above criteria and requests the following:
- Full name of organisation;
- Organisation contact details;
- Its constitution or statutes, indicating its legal status in the country (in English)
- Details of the organisation’s democratic governance and accountability;
- List of current funders;
- A written undertaking that if the organisation is admitted, it will abide by the CANSEA Charter and CAN Charter
